Become a U.S. citizen through Naturalization

In order to qualify, an applicant must:
Be at least 18 years of age at the time the application is filed
Have been a lawful permanent resident for three years (if married to a U.S. citizen) or five years
Meet the continuous residence and physical presence requirements
Be able to read, write and speak English
Demonstrate good moral character
Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of U.S. government and history
Demonstrate loyalty to the U.S. Constitution
Be willing to take the Oath of Allegiance
Once you are a lawful permanent resident, you may be eligible to apply for U.S. naturalization to become a U.S. citizen. The N-400 application is submitted to USCIS.
Other ways to become a U.S. citizen - in some circumstances, people who are born outside of the United States are U.S. citizens without needing to go through the Naturalization process. We can help you determine if you or your family members meet the automatic citizenship requirements.
